Applications of Tai Chi Nei Gong

Nei means inner/deeper and Gong means work/exercise. It is similar to Nei Dan (inner alchemy) but mainly focuses on the first two steps of the Taoist path: converting the Jing into Qi, and then Qi into Shen. This practice which can be done either standing or sitting incorporates simple movements, focused intention, and control of breath and mind. As with Nei Dan, students experience embryonic breathing, activation of the Yellow Court (huang ting); circulation in the micro and macroscopic orbits; tendon, blood, and bone marrow changing, etc. These are phenomena which will happen automatically with the methods Master Cheung teaches.

Nei Dan or Nei Gong are also essential pre-requisites for those who are serious about practicing real Tai Chi. These methods were never meant to be taught to a large group. Today most Tai Chi students only focus on the forms and movements. It is something they can see and copy easily, but without inner cultivation, these forms have lost the profound and subtle essence of real Tai Chi.

In this workshop, we will focus on activating and strengthening the central channel, and continue to work on cultivating the Yellow Court (huang ting). Also, more time will be devoted on learning how to apply this Nei Gong to traditional tai chi movements, self-defense, anti-aging, and healing. This workshop will only be in a small group situation where you will receive specialized individual attention from Master Cheung.

  • Learned Foundations of Tai Chi Neigong either from workshop or retreat, and have been practicing regularly.
