Colin Beattie

I teach Shibashi Levels 1 and 2 to individuals and groups online, in Belfast, and at retreats in Europe.

I began learning Tai Chi (Yang Style Long Form) and Qigong in Belfast with Harriet Devlin in 1994, searching for help with back pain, stiffness, and poor coordination and balance. The practices helped me, and I have continued to learn with several other excellent teachers over the years, including Master Lam Kam Chuen in London and Ann Donnelly in Belfast.

I also teach the Alexander Technique and Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing, and I discovered Sifu Cheung’s version of Shibashi Set 1 on YouTube while searching for new practices for my Alexander Technique clients that could offer them a daily dose of therapeutic mindful movement and breathing.

Initially, I was attracted to the gentle, fluid, rhythmical movements. When I started following along with the video, I found the practice energised and relaxed my whole body, leaving me feeling calmer and more coordinated. Its daily practice has progressively improved my balance, flexibility, strength, and flow.

As I have followed Sifu Cheung’s online courses, I have appreciated the simplicity and depth of his explanations and been impressed by the tangible benefits of the practices. They support me each day, and my clients love them too. Practising feels like a very welcome combination of recharging my battery, oiling my joints, soothing my nervous system, and opening my heart.
