John is a retired medical practitioner. His interests have included the health, welfare, fitness and rehabilitation of individuals after illness or trauma. He has studied Yoga and Long Form Tai Chi. Since his retirement from full time medical practice in 2008 he has focused on self-improvement in his Qigong practice and is certified to teach Qigong Shibashi Sets 1, 2 and Level 3.  He and his wife Rachel (also a retired medical practitioner who teaches with John) have trained with Annie Cryar, Catherine Burnett and Karen Soo in the UK and Sifu Wing Cheung in the UK and also in Bonn, Germany.

John and Rachel practice and teach many different types of Qigong including Silk Reeling, Zhan Zhuang and Yi Jin Jing, with a recent interest in Tai Chi Push Hands. Teaching as a pair, John and Rachel are able to provide their students with a unique pedagogic style in which they demonstrate both simultaneous front and rear views of forms, movements and postures, that provide the attentive observer with an ‘all round’ view of the forms thus enhancing understanding and facilitating learning. In addition to this repertoire, Rachel brings a special interest in maintaining health, nutritional wellness and physical fitness for seniors.  Qigong classes are held in the village of Yealmpton, Devon, mostly outdoors.

John and Rachel also lead workshops in Qigong, Relaxation and Meditation. Importantly, instructing the various forms is strictly in accordance with Sifu Wing Cheung’s teachings. This results in a reproducible set of actions that are consistent.  In other words, the forms as taught by John and Rachel aim to be the same as those that have been taught to them by Sifu Wing Cheung.
