Awhile ago I created a video about an exercise I call Neigong for kidneys, diabetes, knees and lower back. You may say my kidneys seems healthy but in my estimation, as much as 80% of people over age 40 show some sign of kidney weakness. Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 90% adults with chronic kidney disease do not know they have it.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, kidneys refers to more than just the 2 little organs inside the lower back. The kidney system includes the urinary, endocrine, reproductive, and auditory systems, as well as the brain and bones. Our strength, health and longevity depend primarily on our life essence which is also stored in the Kidney. I created this video on Neigong for kidneys, diabetes, knees and lower back in order to help more people with on or more of these health issues.
Taichi Qigong for Kidneys Considerations
In the holistic TCM view, kidney refers to more than just the 2 little organs inside the lower back. The kidney system includes the urinary, endocrine, reproductive, and auditory systems. It also use the stored essence to produce marrow. The marrow here refers to the entirety of what makes up our bones. It includes bone marrow, the spinal cord and even the brain which is called the sea of marrow. When the kidneys are strong, one is expected to have mental strength, sharp vision, prompt thinking, good hearing and eyesight, as well as healthy bones, teeth and hair. Since marrow transforms into blood, if the essence is sufficient, blood will be sufficient too. In addition, kidneys nurture motivation, determination and willpower. This concepts are key for neigong for kidneys practice.
The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic says: “At the beginning of life, the essence is formed first.” This is the life essence which we inherited from our parents and stored in the kidney. We consume it every day to support our daily activities. While we are able to somewhat replenish it through deep restful sleep and nutrients, these are only able to slow down its depletion. When this essence is used up, we die. Neigong for kidneys exercises could help people maintain their kidney’s health.
Our strength, health and longevity depend primarily on our life essence. I’m sure you’ve met people who do not exercise, or who smoke, drink, and/or eat junk food, yet they live a long time. On the other hand, some who live a very health-conscious life, die very early. Why? It is related to their life essence. Today we say we have inherited good or bad genes from our parents. It may sound like there’s not much you can do to change this, but Daoist think otherwise. Ge Hong, a famous Daoist master once said, “My destiny in my own hands, not the heaven’s (hands)”. You can improve your circumstance! This is the potential of TCM and the purpose of this course. Through Daoist inner practices and lifestyle changes you can replenish and fortify your life essence. In today’s terms, change your genes!
