TaiChi and Qigong for Lung and Immunity
When creating this Taichi and Qigong for Lung and Immunity program in February 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic was just starting to spread worldwide. In that newsletter, I emphasized the best weapon and first defense against this new virus is your own immunity and Wei Qi, and I alerted those with pre-existing conditions, especially hypertension, diabetes, cancer, heart, kidney, or liver disease, to be extra careful.
One year later, this remains true, even with the available vaccines. As the virus mutates, it has become more transmissible but hopefully less deadly. It may eventually become something similar to the seasonal flu, but many questions remain:
- Will the current vaccines work against future mutations?
- If it is necessary to get a new shot or two every year, will there be any long-term side effects?
- What are the long-term issues for those who have recovered or are asymptomatic? Studies already report a decrease in sperm count and quality, and some who have recovered are left with debilitating challenges.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), no matter how the virus mutates, your best weapon against this type of outbreak will always be your immunity and Wei Qi. Think about this: When confined together in a flu or Covid-19 infected environment for hours, some may remain healthy. Why? What’s their advantage? It is their immunity and Wei Qi!
TCM focuses on prevention. A primary emphasis is to create the proper environment to boost the patient’s immunity and allow the body to heal naturally. This approach has even been successful in the treatment of serious conditions such as cancer. Thus, one should ALWAYS maintain a healthy immune system. It should be a way of life since epidemics are becoming more and more frequent: SARS in 2002 (10% mortality rate), H1N1 in 2009, MERS in 2012, and now the Covid-19. I’ve created the healing qigong series for this purpose.
‘Wei’ means protection. Wei Qi travels on our skin, surrounding our physical body like a protective shield, and flows into the body. It is our first defense against pathogens, toxins, and harmful conditions. When our Wei Qi becomes weak, these ‘bad’ things can penetrate our body causing imbalance or disease. Once the shield is breached, our immune system takes over the battle.
Generally speaking, by practicing any Tai Chi or Qigong our Wei Qi expands, thickens, and becomes stronger which gives us better protection. Our body’s immunity also improves at the same time. Yet, there are specific techniques that focus on strengthening these areas. Wei Qi is related to our lungs. When our lungs are resilient and healthy, our Wei Qi will naturally be strong as well.
Therefore, in this taichi and qigong for lungs and immunity course I introduce various practices including breathing techniques, standing, and moving qigong, as well as sound healing, massage, acupressure and energy guiding techniques that are especially good for our lungs, Wei Qi and immunity. In February 2021, I updated this course with additional techniques, including a delicious food remedy for even better protection.
The aim of this healing qigong course is to provide practical advice and exercises for you to strengthen these by yourself. When our lungs get stronger, the conditions of many chronic respiratory diseases like asthma, bronchitis will naturally improve. According to TCM the lungs are also strongly associated with the large intestine, so some of these practices are also good for those suffering from constipation. As a bonus, you will also learn the popular 312 meridians method in this program which is very good at improving and maintaining your overall health.
